Adobe Reader 11.0.23 Update

Hello,

In my infrastructure, Adobe Reader 11.0.10 is installed. I'm planning to update the product, as the latest update available is 11.0.23. I'm using Ivanti for 3rd party application updates and through which I have downloaded the update 11.0.23. But its not getting installed on any of the test computers. Then I had tried to download the patches from adobe official site and downloaded 11.0.23 patch and installed but its failing with the below error.

"This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package"

Can someone please help on this ? I need to update my current version rather than upgrading.

Regards

Vineeth

If using the US English version of Adobe Reader XI, try downloading the AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe file from the Adobe FTP site.

Be sure to remove all existing versions of Adobe Reader XI before running that file (AND delete all registry entries in the Windows Registry editor pointing to Adobe Reader; delete the \ProgramData\Adobe\ folder and reboot.  And then try running the AdbeRdrUpd11023.msp file after installing Adobe Reader XI 11.0.10.

    Thanks it worked.

I had uninstalled Adobe Reader 11.0.10 and deleted from Registry. Downloaded and installed AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe file from the Adobe FTP site. Then I updated to 11.0.23. Now its sure the image was made by customized Adobe Reader.

Your situation is difficult. Sometimes, a customised version counts as a new product. Patches cannot be applied to the product, only slipstreamed to the Windows installer modules, which may be impossible if you do not have a record of what was done, especially if not a Windows Installer expert. You'd also need information in the Acrobat XI Enterprise Deployment Kit, but I think you can no longer get this because the product is out of support.

You probably need to uninstall XI (if you can), reinstall the standard product, then apply the patch. This may mean you lose customisations which were important to business processes, so test very thoroughly. Good luck!

I have found an installer file in the SCCM for Adobe Reader 11.0.10. I have uninstalled the product from my machine and installed the software found in the SCCM and it worked successfully but when I tried to apply patch, its not installing. same error as above.

Is there any other way to get it updated to latest version ?

I know it's included in the image but that wasn't my question. How was it deployed to make the image, when it was first made? Was it customised? Please check records in detail.

Im not sure about that, actually it was built a long back. When checked with my colleagues, it seems some customization had made but its not sure.

No, I mean how was the original 11.0.10 deployed EXACTLY? Is this knowledge lost?

11.0.10. was included in the image and was deployed to the machine while Windows installation. That is what I had already mentioned, it was the standard software available in the system.

Reinstall 11.0.10. If it works then you know you have a faulty installation and either make the reinstallation part of your imaging process or you redo the image.

Uninstall 11.0.10 and reinstall it, leave the installer in the original location. Then try the 11.0.23 update again, first without 3rd party products involved.

How exactly was it deployed? Please be detailed.

I had tried by double clicking the installer file but it got failed. Then I tried by command line with Admin privilege and again it got failed.

Is there any prerequisite to install 11.0.23, I mean do we need to have that particular version installed on the machine to get it updated to 11.0.23 ?

Now, that's a different error and seems to show the download is OK, but the patch is not applicable to the product installed. Is it possible the MUI product was used? Or a customised install package?

I had tried with both of these version and was failed with the same error as above.

This is my current version in the affected system.

As 11.0.10 is much older version, we badly need to update it. please help

So do you know how it was originally deployed?

The size seems about right, I have exactly 48,394,240 bytes shown. The problem might be how it is deployed. How exactly do you deploy it? Please try this test exactly: place the MSP file on the desktop of an affected machine (visible, and at the actual system, not remotely). Double click on the desktop file. What result?
