Dear community,

can you please help me with the following issue?

I use Windows 10 with two screens: one main screen and a second screen. Everytime I open a pdf, Acrobat Reader DC opens the pdf on the second screen, and not on the main screen!

I have no idea how to fix this. I appreciate any kind of helpful hints. Thanks!

Regards,

frek17

Hi frek17,

There is no preference settings to set the default screen to open document.

To open the application on the main screen, please try the steps provided below:

  • Open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and resize the window.
  • Move it to the main screen and close it.
  • Now open the application again and maximize the window.
  • Then close it.

Now check if it opens by default on the main screen.

Let us know if you need any help.

This only works temporarily. Close the one that worked, and it goes back to the other screen on the next pdf. 🤦‍:male_sign:

With all the replies to this since 2017 I would think that Adobe would look into making this a preference. I can move Adobe from my closed laptop (if I open it and move it manually) and as long as I don't restart my computer it will open on the last screen I used it. Once I reboot I have to open my laptop and move Adobe. Clicking "move" from the icon on the task bar doesn't move adobe to the other screen. This is a HUGE pain in the butt. Please fix this.

I have Windows 10 and it has been working great until last week.  Now I cannot get any PDF documents to open in any window other than the one it is opening now which is the incorrect window I want to open PDFs in.   I 2 external screens and one monitor screen in the middle.   (external (1), laptop screen (2) and External (3)).  PDFs only open in external 3.  My main default window is External 1.   I have performed the steps ope, move, max, close window multiple times.  Tried rebooting after as well.   Cant get PDFs open on screen 1 or 2.....ONLY 3.  Help Please!  Thanks

Hello, this didn't work for me unless I leave the window maximized.

My issue : I receive batches of PDFs that mostly open where they should, but some documents apparently force the window to move to the other monitor. I need a way to have them open without moving, without having the window maximized. But I have a feeling this is a setting of those specific documents, is there a way to bypass this? Javascript has already been disabled to avoid other annoying things like forcing open the print dialog... so it's not a javascript gimmick.

Thank you for your help!

Just an FYI - I tried MeenakshiNegi steps and it didn't make any difference.  The following however did work for me:

1.  Open Adobe Acrobat

2.  Move to preferred screen

3.  With Adobe Acrobat still open, Start Menu, choose Adobe Acrobat (like you're opening for the first time).  "Nothing" appears to happens.

4.  Close Acrobat, Open Acrobat.

5.  Sustained success for me.

So - opening Adobe and not a file (search Adobe Acrobat from start meniu and open it, not a pdf), moving the window on the preferred screen and closing it worked for me. All pdf opened after that started in the same screen.

Nothing worked for me. Been having this issue for years and nobody seems to know how or if it can be fixed. Sad.

This didn't work for me either.  It seems a more recent iteration of a common problem.  Until just a few days ago, my PDF documents opened on the screen I chose for the last document.  Now, no matter what I do, they will only open on the one screen I don't want them to open on - my original laptop screen.

MeenakshiNegi did not work for me either, but Techsourcing.com, Inc's reply did. Thank you, I'm not sure why this started to happen, but it was becoming very frustration. PM

Still works! Open it then drag to main screen...un-maximized it ..drag or adjusted the edges then close it in main display. And it stays there. Thank you.

Try this steps-

Open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and resize the window.
Move it to the main screen

Close it.
Now open the application again and maximize the window.
Then close it Again.
Now check if it opens by default on the main screen.
