I am runnig Excel in Microsoft 365 on Windows 10. Recently. data files bearing the extension .xlr could not be opened by simply clicking the file as was usual in the past. Now Adobe Reader pops up but says that it is unable to view or open the file. Can anyone explain the change or the solution?

Hi ThomasM

We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are getting the Adobe Reader pop up saying unable topopen or view the file when trying to open the .XLR files

XLR is a file extension for a spreadsheet file used by Microsoft Works. XLR files can contain either spreadsheet or chart data, and can be opened with Microsoft Works, Excel, and the Excel Viewer.

It seems like, you have set the default application as Adobe Reader to open the .XLR files. Please right click on the .XLR file > Open With > And select the MS Excel and check the option 'Always use this application' and click ok  and then try to open the files with Excel and check.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal
