Since installing Adobe XI (11.0.03) when I open an exiting or new pdf on my laptop I get the message: Adobe Reader A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I followed the instructions on the Adobe web site. Nothing is working and I need to be able to do my work. How can I get Adobe X so I can install that older version. Can't find it on the Adobe website. HELP!!

Go to the ‘Acrobat Help/Release Notes ] Acrobat, Reader page and scroll down to ‘Acrobat and Reader X release notes. The version is ‘10.1.7’ and the Date; May 14, 2013. Select the version then a page will open showing ‘Available installers’.

Thank you. At least I can use this workaround since Adobe XI is not working.

Hi,
Could you please let me know the following details:
1. Is the issue happening even if you launch the Reader application without launching any PDF.
2. Can you try and remove any 3rd party plugins that you may have and see if it solves the problem.
If you are not sure regarding the same, please follow the following steps:
a. Navigate to the Reader installation folder. Usually its C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0
b. Ensure that Adobe Reader is not running and delete the entire "Reader" folder
c. Initiate a Repair transaction for Adobe Reader from the Control Panel > Programs and Features
3. Can you please see if closing the "Tools" pane helps.

I am having the same problem.
I had a perfectly working adobe reader X, I had an automatical upgrade to adobe reader XI and now I can't open any pdf on my laptop.
I tried to work around this by uninstalling XI and re-installing version X...but that didn't help, still no PDF's opened.
So I uninstalled X again, re-installed XI and tried what Ankit_Jain suggested...but in vain.
I am running OS windows 7 and have Mc Afee virus software ( also tried to install adobe reader XI with Mc Afee turned off...but result was the same)
Would really like to know how this can be solved...I need to be able to open PDF's for my work !
So a quick solution would be most appreciated.
Thanks !
Werner

Hi,
Thanks for trying out the listed suggestions.
However, since you state that Adobe Reader X is also not working at your end, it would seem to suggest that their must be some unsupported configuration which could be causing this issue.
Could you please post a screenshot of the error dialog that is being displayed post opening a PDF.

I can't post a screenshot, the adobe screen appears for just a few secs and then disappears.
The adobe screen itself remains grey ( so no file opens) and the tool bar above is visible, but when trying to click on any icon, I get a "ping" sound and nothing happens. And a few secs later the screen disappears.
This happens in both versions ( adobe reader X and XI) since I had the automatic update of adobe reader XI.
The snipping tool can't select this adobe screen, it always disappears before I can select it.
The weird thing is that it was working before having the XI upgrade....and after that even the older versions don't work anymore ( X and even IX ...)

I am having exactly the same problem. I have tried uninstalling and resinstalling version X and that will not work either. I tried the suggestions from Ankit_Jain also to no avail. I really need a solution fast! Thanks.

Just to clarify Adobe Reader X was working fine until after uninstalling XI I tried to reinstall X and it will no longer work. Here is a screen shot of the error in XI - the programme opens fine but this error displays when I try to open a file. Thanks.

Hi! This is not an answer. I am having the same problem. I received a message saying Adobe was updated, probably to XI. Was on a web site and tried to read a PDF and couldn't. I have this problem on occasion due to the "Do not save encrypted pages" option being checked in internet options. I took care of that but still could not read PDF. I unistalled Adobe Reader and then tried to download and install Adobe XI and it will not download. Anyone that can help.

Could you please let me know the exact behavior that is observed once you try and launch any PDF. If you receive any error message then please post a screenshot of the same.
Also, could you please elaborate what happens when you say that Adobe Reader XI will not download. Do you receive some error message of sorts or is there some other issue.

With our issue, we are running Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system. We have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 11.0.03.37. When we open an Adobe PDF file, Adobe will hang for several seconds up to a few minutes. It is a temporary freeze/lock of Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can't do anything until it unlocks or unfreezes. Well, you can go to do something else on the computer - but within Adobe Acrobat Reader - you just have to wait. Eventually, it will unfreeze and you can do what you want to do.
Adobe opens real quick if just opening Adobe and you get to the screen where you have to select what you want to do such as open an existing PDF document. But once you open a document - it will freeze for a period of time.

I get Do you want to open save cancel the downloadable file? Click open nothing, click save sometime nothing, and sometimes cannot download the file. Lately I get nothing. The above question is not the expected question should be run or save. Also cannot cancel or x out of the message. The message box itself changes from the white background to all yellow. I have uninstalled everything adobe and now I have no reader or flashplayer. I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home edition i. e. the one that came with the computer.
When I tried to read a PDF I got no messages, Just would not open the page on-line and got nothing no messages until I tried to download new reader

I got no messages just wouldn't open PDF's. Then when I uninstalled and tried to reinstall the reader I got the wrong message and it won't download and now I can't download anything related to PDF's.

To everybody in this (old) topic who still has the problem: does update to 11.0.4 (Reader XI) or 10.1.8 (Reader X) fix it?

I just fixed the same problem on my PC (Win 7 64 bit with Adobe Reader XI).
Here is how I fix it:
1. Uninstall Adobe Reader XI (or all existing version) in control Panel
2. Browse to below folders, rename them to “Arcobat-old”
C:\Users\marshal wang\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat
C:\Users\marshal wang\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat
C:\Users\marshal wang\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat
3. Download and install Adobe Reader X
4. Problem fixed.
Hope this help.
