Any way to highlight a PDF while inside a browser?

I have a website that  can let users highlight pages in the site, but  I can't figure  out a way to have them highlight  phrases in PDFs.   It would be nice if I could us Javascript (or some other  method) to:

1. detect when they highlight a phrase

2. capture the text of that phrase.

3. At some point, if necessary, have  the website find the  phrase again, and perhaps even highlight  it via Javascript

Just  having that functionality opens up PDFs to a whole new type of use.

Does Adobe have any kind of addin that  will allow this?   If not Adobe, has someone else written one?

Thats a step forward.   But given that, can that text be read out in some way, by script  in the browser?

Thanks,

Craig

I found that there is a JavaScript API supplied by Adobe for Acrobat reader, so I'm guessing after I read it that I can highlight and obtain the text of highlights.

Thanks.
