Best solution for obtaining Adobe printer

I am about to self-publish a book.  The print on demand organisation requires the manuscript as an Adobe pdf created through the Adobe printer.  I currently only have the Windows 10 provided Adobe Reader DC.  After submitting (and perhaps revising and resubmitting) I doubt whether I will need the printer again.  I certainly do not need all of the InDesign and Photoshop tools (and doubt whether I have sufficient hard drive space).

Can anyone suggest the most cost effective (or free?) way of adding Adobe printer to my PC.  Is there any possible linkage with Adobe Reader DC?

Unfortunately Reader is going to be of no help here. In order to get the Adobe PDF printer, you will need to purchase Adobe Acrobat. That comes with the printer (Windows only).

If they simply want a pdf file, there are other ways but if they specifically asked for you to print to the Adobe PDF printer, they must have a reason for that (other pdf printers may not be fully compliant). If they were just suggesting that approach and don't care specifically about the Adobe PDF printer, there are free ones out there you can look for in Google. I do not have any I would personally recommend.

Thanks for your quick response.  The book publishers are insisting on Adobe pdf printer being used.  I obviously do not want to spend hundreds of pounds on an application that I would only use a few times.   My follow on question is therefore, if I can only get the printer with Adobe Acrobat, how old a version of Adobe Acrobat has the printer and would be compatible with Windows 2015?

Windows 2015?

As long as your OS is newer than Windows Vista, you can run the newest version of Adobe Acrobat. It will provide you with a PDF printer. There is a monthly subscription but it requires an annual commitment.

If you can find an older version of Acrobat (Pre-DC) to purchase like X or XI, that will work too. Adobe doesn't sell old versions so you'll have to find it elsewhere.
