Can not open more than one pdf file

Community Beginner ,
Feb 06, 2018 Feb 06, 2018

Hi

I have the issue that I can't open more than one PDF file anymore.

I haven't changed anything in the settings neither did I install a newer adobe version on my computer. I tried to uninstall adobe reader dc and to reinstall it. Nothing changed. It's funny because last week everything worked as usually. Also I do not receive an error message.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

What happens when you attempt to do so?

What version of Reader do you use?

What's your operating system version?

Are you double-clicking the file, or are you opening it via File - Open? Are you sure it's not opening in a new tab, instead of a new window?

I am double-clicking the file. And yes I am sure that it doesn't open a new tap or a new window.

Could be a problem with the association of PDF files and Reader.

Right-click the file and select Open With - Choose Default Program. Select Reader from the list and tick the box to always use this app for that kind of file. Click OK and see if that helps...

Does it work if you try to open the same file from inside Reader (via File - Open)?

OK, so it's a problem with the OS integration or file association. Does it work if Reader is closed and you double-click a file?

Yes, when Adobe DC is closed and I double-click on a pdf file it opens it. But when I try to open a second PDF file (double-cllick) nothing happens.

Really strange... I would try running a Repair Installation from the Help menu.

Hello ,

I had the same problem, I could not open more than one PDF at a time. I uninstalled the version I had and re-downloaded the New version for Windows 10 and it works Now!

I think it was due to the version I had (ADOBE READER TOUCH).

Have a nice day!

Mounia

PS:Sorry my English is not very well 😉

I had the same issue I had to Right Click on the Icon in the start menu, and go to "troubleshoot Compatability." Click on try Recommended Settings and it fixed the Issue but I do no know the cause of it. LOL

Hello,

is there a solution available?

We have the same problem.

Adobe Reader is fresh installed but it did not open the second pdf from Explorer.

Opening second or more pdf from menu File - Open is working.

OS is Windows 7

I have the same problem running Windows 10 (can't open more than 1 pdf file at a time in separate windows).   I have fresh install of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.  Adobe is set as default app to open pdf files.    Ran the compatibility thing with Window 10.    Nothing I've tried make it work properly.   The Adobe window has the tabs at the top for the files i've opened, but Windows 10 does not open separate windows like it does for other apps like Word, Excel, etc.

This is an old thread, but I solved it today.

Edit \ Preferences \ Security (Enhanced) \ Sandbox Protections - Disable 'Enable protected mode at startup'.

I was having problems opening multiple files on network drives. They would open if dropped and dragged into the existing Adobe Reader DC window but not if executed by clicking or hitting enter in the file browser. Windows 10.
