Copy pasting Chinese within adobe reader or to word

Hello guys,

So I am trying to copy paste simplified chinese characters into the search bar within adobe reader  (basically I am comparing whether certain text in the pdf appears in another pdf file). Instead of getting the characters I get jibberish. I get the same result when I copy paste on word as well. Any help is appreciated thank you.
