Fishy download

Back in December i saw an Adobe update screen on my Macbook Pro and clicked on it.    I immediately began experiencing problems, particularly with my Mailapp, which I use for Gmail.

I went online and ended up buying an AppCleaner for $ 4 and finding and deleting the bad app.   Also, got Malwarebytes to help secure  things going forward.

However, the bad people are not through with me yet.    Currently, whenever I power up my MacbookPro the first window that appears is an app claiming to be from Adobe as com,adobe.ARMDCHelper.    Not wanting to click on this, I have been showing the download in Finder, and sending it to the trash.  Next, I have to ForceQuit the Adobe app and also send it to the trash.

I also went to Preferences and saw that the Adobe app was listed in Login procedures.  Of course I have deleted the app from there.

Nevertheless, whenever I power up the laptop, the Adobe window reappears;  I have to move it to the trash before I can proceed.

I think I have some kind of worm in my start up code that calls for this suspicious app with each power up.  Can you help ?

Thank you,

Michael Berl

I have sent the download and ARMDCHelper app to the trash and emptied it.

I went to Utilities file, then Terminal file then typed in the message you

gave me. The error message appears bash no such file exists. I tried

this 12 different ways. Beginning with the exact spelling with forward

slash, caps where you indicated, with spaces .....then without spaces.

    Same error message persists.

What am I doing wrong ? So close.

Are you referring to the Library folder? If yes, try clicking Go > Go to Folder at the top of the screen: Where is the go menu on OS X Mountain Lion and ... |Official Apple Support Communities

Type ~/library/ to open library folder.

    Hi Michael,

Sorry for the delay in response.

adobe.ARMDCHelper is a background process required for Creative Cloud applications. Could you let us know if you have Creative Cloud app installed on the machine? If yes, try the steps given in this thread: How to stop Creative Cloud from running at startup?

Let us know if you need any further help.

    Hello Shivam,

No, I do not have Creative Cloud. The solution outlined is not correct

    for me.

By examining various threads I have seen 3 pieces of software in Library

and Launch Daemons. I have also seen various suggested methods for

renaming the files....like adding .bak . This is with using the

    superuser function with do commands.

This should not be necessary. I am very unhappy with this invasion of

sorts that forces me to expend energy and time to research a problem Adobe

    has created for me.

I am happy that someone has responded to my pleas for help. Thank you,

    sir.

If possible, I would like to know the easiest and surest way to get rid of

this login problem. By the way, the System Preferences, User Groups login

    file is clear.

Since Adobe created this problem with an unsolicited download, the company

should create a free patch that will fix the trouble.

My use of the superuser commands troubles me. As you know, an error here

could have significant consequences on the operation of my laptop.

I can take the machine to a repair specialist, if Adobe will reimburse me

    for the costs.

Do you have the authority to make that commitment ?

    Thanks again,

    Michael Berl

Sorry Michael, but I am not in authority to make that commitment but I will try my best to resolve this issue.

Could you please confirm the Adobe application installed on the machine?

To do that, visit the /Applications/ Folder.

    Thanks,

    Shivam
