How to copy phonetic symbols from PDF to Word?

Hi Guys,

Interested to know if there is a solution to my question. OCR does not recognize phonetic symbols and with 3 PDF documents filled with phonetic symbols that are required to be converted to a Word doc, it would be an efficient and tedious task to manually find the appropriate phonetic symbols online and copy each individual character across to Word. If there is a simpler solution that allows me to copy them straight out of the PDF, it would be really helpful.
