Hi Adobe Community,

People prefer using CBR/CBZ format for reading eBook/Comics, why ? I love reading my Comics in PDF Format with Adobe Reader. I know that the people use "CDisplayEx" for reading Comics in CBR/CBZ.

What is the future for the PDF Format ? Could Adobe create a new format "PDZ" or "PDCB" for instance for reading Comics like with CDisplayEx ?

Greetings

These files are nothing more than zip (or rar) files with image files in them, with a dedicated software that displays them in a certain way. A PDF file is much more portable and can contain much more information than that, for example, real text that you can search, copy, etc.

Hi,

I am agree with try67 but : Could "Adobe Acrobat" use a (new) format in "PDF" similar like .ZIP/.RAR for opening/reading the PDF faster only for the Comics Books ? We know that PDF file can contain much more information but I think the a new format might be creating against CBR/CBZ format !

PDZ => PDF compressed in ZIP (contains images/pictures) + information compatibility Adobe ?

PDR => PDF compressed in RAR (contains images/pictures) + information compatibility Adobe ?

Else PDCB => PDF compressed like ZIP/RAR (contains images/pictures) + information compatibility Adobe.

Greetings,

I don't see the point. Adding another layer of compression will not make loading files faster, but slower.

And a file that contains compressed images with additional information it just a regular PDF...

If we convert image files of .cbr (.zip) and combine them as to create .pdf file, image quality drastically gets decreased, also the smoothness of jpeg files gets compromised.
while CDisplayEx does not support continuous scrolling as adobe reader do, but adobe reader (while not showing page gap), shows a dashed line hamper the experience of webtoon comics.
None of them is perfect, even though both have a very small issue that makes a big and bad impact on user experience.
Hey Adobe can you provide an option for not showing the dashed line on hiding page gap

Many fast CBx readers such as SumatraPDF can save image based CBx files as native PDF without changing the Image resolution, thus they should not be slowed down by compression and should be just as sharp as the original.  Hybrid Comic Books with XML Publication data and dynamic instructions to move between frames with multiple language layers (such as .acbf types) are a totally different breed and the most accurate simple conversion would be to manually replicate the XML sequential links in any PDF editor such as to "zoom to" next image. They are not very widespread and since they would require a full PDF Editor to emulate the dynamic flow using their embedded fonts, its likely to be a laborious and costly process for your average user to reproduce the layers for every language. Simply use those XML formats in their own reader (as they were intended to be used) and just print to normal image based PDF in your own language, if that is your preference. Any image based Comic Books can be OCR processed if really necessary for Read Aloud usage but that again is another vey niche usage.
