Reader DC freezes each click

I have a repair manual for my 2000 Ford on a CD. The CD manual is some kind of write-protected file that prohibits copying (Official Licensed Product: Ford Motor Company). It came with two .pdf files: 265,000 KB and 222,000 KB. I'm running Win 10 Home, 64-bit, Version 1903; OS build 18362.116. Intel i5-7600K CPU@ 3.80 GHz; 32.0 GB RAM. I'm using the native graphics driver in the Intel CPU chip.

The repair manual has many diagrams in it, but I have to spend dozens of minutes just to get to the right page to view any particular graphic.

Each click on any menu item in Reader DC makes the window freeze for an indeterminate period of time until the 'hourglass icon' disappears.

This is ridiculous service from a product that has been in refinement for dozens of years since its creation. Are there some settings I need to tweak to get this behemoth to inch-along faster? I dread working on the CD .pdf MORE than I do the vehicle!  [Edited by moderator]

Hi There,

Apologies for the delay in response, I hope you would be able to fix it by now.

It the problem still persists, as stated above, the application freezes after each click, correct?

What is the dot version of the application installed? To check the application version you may follow the link  - Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Please check for any missing updates. Go to Help > Check for Updates. To know more about the latest version available please refer to the link - DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products

For the testing purpose, you may try to turn off the protected view. Go to Edit  > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Turn OFF the Protected View and Uncheck the Enhanced Security, restart the application and check.

Note: Turning OFF the security is for testing purpose only, please turn ON the security after testing, irrespective of the results.

If turning off the security works for you please refer to the help article - Protected Mode troubleshooting | Adobe Reader

You may also refer to the troubleshooting steps provided in the help article - Troubleshoot Windows system errors, freezes | Adobe software

Let us know if that works for you

Regards,

Amal
