Simplified Chinese Language Support Package Problems

New Here ,
May 06, 2013 May 06, 2013

NEED HELP PLEASE!!! Trying to complete our Visa Applications for China.  These applications must be filled out online through Adobe.  When I clicked the box to start filling out the application, it said the following:

"You need to install the Simplified Chinese Language Support Package to take this action on this form.  Under the current configuration, this resource is not available."

So I did that.  Installed the support package.  When I try to open the downloaded file, Adobe pulls up and gives me this:

"Adobe Reader could not open 'FontPack1000_zh_CN(1).msi' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

I don't know what to do.  I am running the most up to date version of Firefox.  I have to get this fixed asap.  These forms must be filled out and printed online.  The Chinese Consulate does not allow them to be handwritten.

Ok, that font pack download is certainly not for you. An MSI file is Windows only, and cannot be made to work in Mac OS X.  .

There are downloads available for Adobe Reader in Macintosh, they are DMG files as usual. You need to choose from this page:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Macintosh

Look under Add-ons for your version of Reader and language needed.

First: I don't think you must fill out these forms online.  In fact I think it would be better if you downloaded the form to your local disk, and fill / print them from there.

Second, I do not understand how your font pack download could possibly open Adobe Reader.  Do the following:

Now you should be able to fill your Chinese forms (local or online).

Hi Pat,

What I meant when I said these forms must be filled out "online," was that they must be filled out, on the computer, rather than hand written.  In other words, you are not allowed to print their blank form and write out the information.  When I download the form that the Visa office in New York sent me, it is saved on my computer.  So we are talking about the same thing.

I followed your instructions exactly and the same thing happens.  I downloaded the file.  Closed EVERYTHING down.  Double clicked the downloaded file.  When I do that, it first says there is no application associated with the file and it can't open.  So if I choose Adobe, then I get this message again:

Adobe Reader could not open 'FontPack1000_zh_CN(1).msi' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Same thing.

No, Adobe Reader CANNOT open msi files. These are a standard Windows file type, to be opened by Windows Installer. If you cannot open msi files, your copy of Windows is damaged, and needs to be relpaired.

If you are not running Windows, what version of Mac OS X are you running? FireFox is not a system, so it must be one or the other, in my expectation.

I know that.  Again, just meant that I'm not on a PC or using Windows.  I am on Mac OS X version 10.7.5.

Just curious (and confused); since you are on a Mac, why did you download the Windows installer in the first place?

I had no idea what I was installing was for Windows only.  I googled "Simplified Chinese Support Package" and clicked the first link.  When I saw that the file it was telling me to download worked with Firefox, I thought it would work.  I have no idea what a .msi file vs. a .dmg or abcdefg file is.  None of that stuff means a thing to me.

Ok, I understand.  Windows and Mac operating systems are completely different; there are very few things that can work on both systems.  This is why

Anyway, glad you got it working.

I have a similar (but slightly different) problem.  I have a .pdf form which I am trying to view and fill out.  It requires an add-on for the Chinese content.  When I try to view the document, I get the following error message: "A font package is required to correctly display this page. Click ‘OK’ to direct your browser to download the add-on from adobe.com. After installation, you will need to close and re-open the document to correctly view the contents dependent on these newly installed fonts.".

When I click "OK", it takes me to the Adobe site to download the FontPack1000_zh_CH(1).msi file.  When I double-click on that file it tries to install the font pack but then gives me another error message, "The installer requires Adobe Reader X installed on your system. Please install Adobe Reader X before running the installer."

I am running Adobe Reader X and it is the only version on my system.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thank you.  That error should not occur.

I suggest that you

  1. uninstall Reader X using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
  2. reinstall Reader 10.1.4 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
  3. update Reader to 10.1.10
  4. install the Chinese font pack
