Hi All,
We are running Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2018.011.20038 on RDS servers (Windows Server 2016).
When testing if the application was installed properly, we have realized that we are unable to open PDF files which were located locally on the vhdx of the server.
For example, if the PDF file is located on the User Desktop (C:\Users\User1\Desktop), we are getting the following error message:
There was an error opening this document. Access denied.
We were able to open the PDF from User redirected folders such as "My Documents" on the RDS server... so the installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader is not corrupted.
Yes, we know, a lot of people had the issue mentioned above and they by-passed it by disabling the Protected mode in Adobe Acrobat Reader... but unfortunately, this is an unacceptable solution for us.
We also read that there is a known bug with the Symbolic link... but this isn't really a symbolic link.
Anyone have had this problem and ever found the root cause and the proper solution to fix it?
Any help is appreciated!

We are also facing the same exact issue and have had little success in getting this to work. Have you gotten anywhere since posting this?

Hello Jmpoulio,
We're sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. Are you still experiencing the issue or is it resolved? Install the latest update of Adobe Reader 2018.011.20063 from DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products and see you still face the same issue.
Add the location of the file(server location) under Edit>Security(enhanced)>Add folder path and try opening the file again.
You can also refer and try the suggestions from the following Adobe discussions Cannot open files on the network server.
Adobe ReaderX can not open sharing files on Server
Let us know how it goes and share your observation.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.
