We have a user, who when opening any pdf document, her cursor changes into a black box

When you go into the preference settings it shows normal, when back into the home screen black box cursor returns

Removed Adobe DC, Reinstalled again Via Web Installer

Updated Java in-case it maybe linked

Restored the OS to a previous working state and the it still does the same

Is there some setting that could be causing this? Macro or ActiveX?

Black Box only shows in Adobe

I just updated to the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC v2015.016.20041 and still have the black box issue. It doesn't show up on a screenshot though.

Can you let us know if the following workaround helps resolve the issue?

1. Go to local appdata folder -

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\DC

2. Delete the following file in local appdata folder -

IconCacheRdr.dat, in case of Reader DC

IconCacheAcro.dat, in case of Acrobat DC

3. Restart Reader/Acrobat

Do you still see the black cursor issue?

I found the IconCacheAcro65536.dat file in a different folder. Instead of being in the DC folder it was in 2020. C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\2020. I deleted it and now the black box is gone.

I am having this same problem. Deleted the icon file (Acrobat closed) and still get the annoying black box.

Reset my computer. Have tried this solution several times with several scenarios.

It's awful. Any other solutions?

Noticed that this is only happening when I am connected remotely to my computer. Black box is not there when I am sitting at the computer. Any ideas what might be causing this? It only happens with Adobe.

Remote connection program is ScreenConnect.

When I browsed the suggested directory, I found two IconCacheRdr files.  I deleted the one with the latest date, IconCacehRdr5536.dat, and left the earlier one, and that has cured my cursor of the black pox.

WORKED FOR ME

I just deleted the file and that did not help solve the "black square" mystery. I have never seen this problem before. Like many of the fellows in the community, I probably received an update and now it all jacked up. What should I do?

This just happened to me today. I followed the instructions, closed Acrobat and deleted the files, relaunched DC and the black box is gone.

Illustrated Steps to Success

Close Acrobat DC

Type

'Windows Key' +R

which opens the Run Command

Copy and Paste the following line:

%localappdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\DC

Click on 'OK'

I found these 3 files and a Folder that were all dated as just newly created

create '!BLACK SQUARE BUG' Folder - pick them up and drop them in it

created

Reopen Acrobat DC

Success
