Why did I receive email saying my Adobe Acrobat XI Pro purchased in Dec of 2012 was a trial version and I needed to upgrade?

December 2012 , I purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro XI For my Mac Book Pro.  A month ago i received a notice my Adobe Acrobat was a trial version and I needed to upgrade.  My Adobe Acrobat stopped functioning. I had no choice because I was in the middle of a large project.  I purchased the Adobe Acrobat Pro  DC yesterday for $215.00 plus tax.

1.) The download said it is the Classic version despite my confirmation order showing Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.

2.) The installed product would not allow access to my stored documents.

3. The installed product removed every watermark on all of my documents.

4.) And there is no way to get assistance except to post to a forum???

Thank you for your helpfulness in understanding item 1.

2.) I erred.  We could open the stored project documents but not make changes. The password to the stored documents/project was no longer valid after the upgrade.

3.) The watermarks were added on top of Word documents using Adobe Acrppobat Pro XI.  some of the watermarks needed to be lightened  but they could not be changed after the upgrade.  In addition, the entire project was wiped clean of watermarks. We had to start from scratch adding watermarks again: "Property of the Swedish Colonial Society", etc.  Some watermarks were across the face of the Word document and some were in the right margins

4.) Whoever you are, thank you!

1) The "classic version" is simply the latest version of Acrobat, upgraded in the usual way for a fee, and expected to be upgraded every year or to, in order to keep working. By contrast there is the "continuous version" which is a subscription version that is ahead of classic, and stays current.

2) Please explain "would not allow access to my stored documents". You should be able to open any PDF on your computer using Open from the File menu in the usual way.

3) Please explain what kind of watermark they are/were and how you added it.

4) Or Adobe tech support. We are NOT Adobe staff here.

Are you sure you got an EMAIL saying you needed to upgrade? I have never heard of any email like this. Messages on screen, yes. This is a technical problem that is not unusual and does not need an upgrade. If you'd have come straight here we might have sorted it, sometimes it needs Adobe input. It certainly does not need a new purchase, though people with older versions may need to.

I failed to see your last question about the email vs message: Acrobat Pro II stopped working and a message appeared that we were using a trial version and we needed to upgrade.   I had four options for the upgrade not having any idea I was using a trial version since Dec 20, 2012.   I chose the Adobe Acrobat DC Pro for $199.00 instead of a monthly subscription. It appears this is a software lease and not a real purchase.
