PDF files do not show a thumbnail in 64 bit Windows since at least Vista. Even after seven years of posts, workarounds, complaints, and fury, and long after 64 bit operating systems became the standard, this problem persists. The wonderful Leo Davidson of Pretentious name software created a fix for this problem years ago, but Adobe never has to my knowledge. Yes, I have turned on Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer with no result. It is beyond bizarre that this basic problem remains unresolved after all this time. Can anyone explain why?

Could you elaborate then? PDF thumbnails still will not generate in 64 bit Windows Explorer unless I have Leo Davidson's 64 bit pdf thumbnail fixer installed.

Open Windows Explorer and on the right end of the Vies tool bar in the Navigation section select the "Preview Pane". Note this option will open the PDF to read the PDF and prevent actions like rename and delete.Within the Control Panel one can set the Appearance and Rationalization panel There is a tab for File Explorer Options which has a number of options for how to display or not display the file icon. Not all PDFs will have a preview image in the file's header so there will be no preview image.
