Hi Talbot105,

As mentioned in the description above, Acrobat hangs when trying to convert word file to pdf, could you please check if an update is available for Acrobat using "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu, reboot the machine after installing update and try again. You may also download updates from here: Adobe software and product updates

Is there any error message when Acrobat hangs? Does this happen with specific word file only? Have you tried converting other word files? Does that work?

Also, let us know dot version of Acrobat and the operating system installed on the machine? You may refer to the steps given in this link on how to check the version in Acrobat: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Let us know if you need any help.

Shivam,

Thank you for your reply.

There are no outstanding updates for Acrobat (Acrobat 9 Pro 9.5.5)

If I open a Word file and then Save it as a PdF then that works fine.

However, if I open Acrobat and try to 'Create' a PdF from a Word file it

fails,

Having chosen a Word file from the offered directories then the Word app is

started followed by message from Acrobat Distiller "Unable to create temp

folder - Err 183" (There are no duplicate files)

Then both Word and Acrobat lock up and I'm only able to break the lock by

deleting both in Task Manager.

It fails consistently with any Word files chosen.

Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Chris Salmon

I would consider re-installing or performing a Repair Installation of Acrobat.  If this is a possibility in your scenario, let us know if that helps fix your issue.

My best,
