Question

Acrobat pro DC recognise text is greyed out

I have seen this issue occur for other users in another post to this forum. However, for the others who were having this issue the adobe team released a software update which resolved the matter. It is after this update release that I installed Acrobat pro DC. This means my version of the software should contain the patch. The issue I am having is, when I open a PDF doc. which I want to edit the text of, sections of the docs. text are only selectable as objects whilst the recognise text option is greyed out in the Editor tool bar. It seems there is no way for me to resolve this matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

we are sorry for the trouble and the delay in response. I hope you would be able to fix it by now. If the issue still persists we need some more information:

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat / Reader DC and the OS you are using? To check the version of the application please use the link (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html) Make sure you have the latest version 20.006.20042 Go to Help> Check for Updates. For more information please use the link (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html)

Is this a behavior with a particular file or with all the files. Please try with a different file and check. If its a file specific issue please share the file with us for testing. Upload the file on the document cloud (https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/home/) generate the link and share the link with us.

If it still doesn't work, please try the following steps:

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal

The Edit tool in Acrobat Pro DC automatically runs OCR on all PDF. If not, you can use the Enhanced Scan option. Open Acrobat Pro DC, go to Tools and select Scan and OCR.When it opens, go to Recognize text> In this file> Settings

Select Output as "Searchable Image Exact" option and click Ok. Then click Recognize text button.

If that does not work, simply use Print to PDF and then try editing the new document.
