But above all, sort out what you have got installed somehow!

Those are clearly intended to be permanent licenses. You are quoting a version which is a subscription only product. This cannot work. This may be a dodgy product or you may have mixed things up with a download of the wrong thing. Perhaps the easiest way to get in a mess is to download the free trial, which must be completely eradicated before you can use the permanent version.

I have a perpetual license. It shows up as version 15.009.20077 in my "Programs and Features" and I received this on a DVD this month. Even the serial number is not recognized as valid by Adobe.

update by downloading the files directly and then applying them:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

I do have a serial number o 6 groups of 4 numbers and it appeared already for me when I loaded the software from the DVD. Adobe support says that this serial number was not a valid serial number. If this software is not legitimate someone sure went to a lot of trouble to counterfeit it as it came in a sealed Adobe box and disk with all the normal Adobe papers and descriptions. It has got me puzzled and concerned as I do not know what I have paid for and installed. I did completely remove all my previous Adobe Acrobat and Reader products (twice) with both the normal uninstall tools and the special Adobe cleaner software that wipes the registry as well with no different results.

that does sound suspicious.  and if you contacted adobe support via chat, reported that serial number and they said it was invalid (which is a lot more than just seeing the 'invalid serial number' message reported by the installer), i would contact the vendor and report the issue (which i think you already did).

if you paid via credit card, i would notify my credit card company of suspected fraud and try to block payment.

if the vendor does not respond by 1/3/17, i would notify amazon of suspected fraud.
