Adobe Acrobat X Pro cannot be set as default program to open .pdf files. How can I do it, please?

Hi.

Adobe Acrobat X Pro cannot be set as default program on my computer to open .pdf files.

I am using Windows 10, 64-bit. I could change the default for .pdfxml, but not for .pdf, using the Set Associations dialog in Control Panel.  Please note the default for .pdfxml, which I could change from Adobe Reader, had to be changed to Adobe Acrobat DC, not Acrobat X Pro.  I do not own the DC version.  The online Adobe tech wouldn't even talk to me about X Pro since she said it's no longer supported.

I know how to set associations, but this eludes me.  Acrobat X Pro works fine.  How can I overcome this, please?

Kindly respond to [Personal info removed by Mod: Email address] in addition to posting in this discussion.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with association top pdf with adobe acrobat pro 9 in w10

Hello Andersh,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you want to make Acrobat Pro 9 as a default PDF viewer in Windows 10, Is that correct?

Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 10 as it has never been tested on Windows 10 environment as Acrobat 9 is already declared as an End of Life and support product End of support | Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 (and earlier)

And due to this, you may face issues while trying to make Acrobat Pro 9 PDF association in Windows 10.

You may try the steps mentioned in the following Adobe article which may or may not work with Acrobat Pro 9 as the recommended version of Acrobat for Windows 10 is the latest version of Acrobat Pro DC Associate PDF files to always open in Acrobat or Reader on Windows 10

You may also refer and try the suggestion mentioned in the following Adobe discussion Unable to make Acrobat 9 default with Acrobat Reader DC installed

To download the latest version of Acrobat, you can use the Adobe URL Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC | Non-subscription

Feel free to update this discussion for any further assistance.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hi sachssci2 ,

Would request you to please Right click on any PDF file from your system. Then go to properties > under general tab, using the 'change' under Opens with Set Acrobat X pro as your Default for the PDF Files on your system.

You may also change the check with Acrobat> Edit > Preferences > General > select the option "Select as Default PDF Handler"

Neither of these methods works. Upon re-start, Adobe Reader is still the default to read PDFs.
