Adobe Flash Player

New Here ,
Jun 08, 2020 Jun 08, 2020

Hi, how can I use imbedded PDF movies after Flash Player reach EOL by the end of 2020? Is it possible to select another player instead? I think in former version it was possible to select different players too.

Hope you can help me here out.

Here is the info we have, which is alarmingly lacking in detail for planning... https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/flash-format-support-in-pdf.html

hmm.... I thought the option only works for older/former Adobe version? Perhaps I am wrong, but for the new version is only the Categorie"3D & Multimedia" available.

I would suggest not putting video in PDF, and especially not flash. At the current time, there are no good PDF solutions for video.

Au contraire, mon ami!

With the May 2020 release of Acrobat DC and the QFE patches that came out shortly thereafter, you can readily place any .MP4 or .MOV video file withing a PDF file as long as its internal encoding is h.264.

For sounds, you can place .MP3 sound files.

In neither case is Flash required at all. (You are probably best off uninstalling Flash Player at this time unless you have legacy .SWF content that you need to continue playing or you are moving .SWF to another format and still need to be able play .SWF during the transition!)

Wow, Thanks Dov! That's incredibly good news.

I'll have to start using video again 🙂

Hi Dov Isaacs

Quelle bonne nouvelle !

Does it mean that users must have the May 2020 release of Reader DC to play MP3 and h.264 or can they use an older version?

I honestly don't know whether the updates to the Acrobat or Reader 2015 or 2017 or even the earlier DC builds can properly play already embedded MP3 sounds and h.264 video. It may very well do so.

Thank you Dov Isaacs

I'd tested with Adobe Reader 9, Acrobat Pro XI and Acrobat Pro DC 2019 on my old Mac PowerBook : for MP3 & H.264 it just display a blank screen after prompting to activate 3D…

I can't wait to test on a PC…

Hi,

Is it possible to add a video(H.264) with media tool in a PDF with the latest version of acrobat pro, and read it with acrobat reader?

When i tried, acrobat reader(2020.009.20067) wont read the video (black screen with green line) but acrobat pro will read the video properly.

Is there a parameter to choose in media encoder to make it working or any H.264 suppose to work?

Hi all,

did anyone managed to play a video (H.264) with the new May 2020 release? I tried it and get the prompting that Flashplayer will run out of support by end of 12/2020 and I should deaktivate Flashplayer, after I did this und tried to play a video again, I received a new system message that the video can't be displayed because I deaktivated relevant contents.

Do I have to change something in the configuration too?

Hi @Dov Isaacs, it seems that we still have the issue to play the video into Acrobat. My Acrobat always crashes even I have the latest version. Could you please advise if there is something we can do to play again videos into Acrobat files?

Thanks in advance,
Best regards,

Stephane

LATEST

StephaneHOL, nobody has mentioned a crash before. What is your crash message, your operating system and your exact version of Acrobat or Reader (not "latest" please)? Is the file sharable?
