Can't install Acrobat DC

Hi everyone, I've been having problems with Acrobat DC for the past couple of weeks - all I can do is open PDFs, anytime I try to edit them, or even zoom in or out, it crashes.  So I thought I'd reinstall it but I keep getting the message "Found a higher version Adobe Acrobat in the installation location. Installation will terminate.". I have completely deleted all previous versions of Acrobat on my Mac and I know they're gone because I can't even open PDFs now. So why won't it install the creative cloud version?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using High Sierra 10.13.3. Regards, Teresa

Correct answer kglad

do you have an acrobat dc subscription?  if yes:

uninstall everything cc including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

restart your computer (don't skip this)

reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.

if you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 4 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)

use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials
