Cannot Set TIFF and TIF files to open in Adobe DC Pro

I am using windows 10 with Adobe DC pro Version 2008.008.20081 and trying to set TIF and TIFF files to open with it instead of windows photo viewer. At first when I would select Adobe DC it would change the default to Nero, so I deleted Nero. Now it does nothing and stays as photo viewer. Tried using the open with and select as default, it opens with DC but doesn't change default. Tried in default apps to set as Adobe DC, no luck, does nothing when I select Adobe DC. Tried to select it from programs> Photo viewer and change it there, nothing. Tried right clicking on a file and change in properties, no luck there either.

To be very clear, Acrobat is not a viewer of TIFF or other image format files. That is why it doesn't initially install to open such file formats (including JPEG, PNG, etc.) directly in Acrobat.

Acrobat's support of such file formats is strictly for conversion of such formats to PDF. Thus if you open a TIFF or other image file in Acrobat, what you actually see on screen is a PDF version of that file which, depending upon the default preferences set within Acrobat for such conversions, may be somewhat lossy.

Thus, if you want/need to convert an image file to PDF, the proper procedure is to run Acrobat, invoke Open and in the open dialog, change the file type to All Files (*.*) and then select the image file you are interested in converting. Prior to doing that Open operation, it would behoove you to go to Preferences (Ctrl-K), select Convert to PDF, and then select and modify as necessary the conversion options for the particular file type (such as TIFF, etc.).

If you wish to save the PDF file created from your image file, you will need to explicitly save it somewhere before closing the file and/or exiting Acrobat.

I am trying to switch to Chrome from Firefox b.c it plays better with Clio.  One of the processes I need to do regularly involves dowbnloading tif files from the Odyssey Webnsite which Firefox can open as PDFs.  But I can't figure out how to set Chrome to do that.  Thanks.

What does that have to do with Adobe?

I'm having the same problem.  Windows 8.1 and 7 had an button in the upper right corner of the window that would allow you to find and select another app on your PC.  In Win 10 there is only one option to go to the Windows store which is not going to present Adobe Acrobat DC as an option.

Hi Bobs,

As you need to open the TFF file with Adobe Acrobat DC on Windows 10, select the TIF file and right click on it.

Select Open with and then select "Adobe Acrobat DC" (if available in the list) otherwise click on "Choose another app".

If the Adobe Acrobat DC is installed on the machine the option will be available in the list.

However, opening the file in Acrobat will convert it to PDF.

Let us know if you experience any issue.

Regards,
