Font Change after Optimization

Once I've saved my inDesign file as a PDF I'll optimize it to reduce the size, but for some reason the font turns out different afterwards. I don't want to keep going in the PDF to edit the font manually every time I go through optimization. HELP.

Without providing sample before and after PDF files for us to examine, it would be exceptionally difficult for us to troubleshoot why there would be any font changes after invoking Acrobat's optimization functionality, unless you are specifying that Acrobat should unembed fonts from the PDF file.

That having been said, the most efficient optimization of PDF exported from InDesign (and we assume you use export and don't try doing somethin foolish by printing to AdobePDF) is obtained by judiciously choosing your PDF export options, especially those related to image resolution and compression.

We believe you are seeing differences, but without the actual before and after PDF files themselves (plus the settings you used for the optimization), we simply can't help you. Use a file sharing service and provide us links to the files and we will attempt to find the issues.
