How can I download and install the Free Acrobat Reader?

I keep trying to solve a problem where my PC just stops opening .pdf documents and when I look in task manager there are as many attempts as I have made showing up as background processes but thje documetns don't ever open. I tried reinstalling Acrobat Reader but ended up with Acrobate Reader DC free trial or something like that.  How can I get Free Acrobat Reader on my machjine again and one that will work?
