How to install Acrobat DC Pro over Acrobat 9 Pro?

I have a licensed copy of Acrobat 9 Pro installed on a Windows 7 computer. I purchased an upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro, but never installed it. I want to install Acrobat DC Pro. In years past I have had Acrobat installations fail when the computer had previous versions of Acrobat installed.

Do I need to deactivate and uninstall Acrobat 9 before installing Acrobat DC?

Do I just install Acrobat DC and get a successful result just letting the install routine do its thing?

Is there anything special I need to do to avoid problems?

Thanks,

Joe

Is your Acrobat DC an upgrade as well? If so, make sure you have all the serial numbers of your previous versions.

If you have them, deactivate and uninstall them, and then install Acrobat DC and enter the old serial number(s) when prompted to.

If it's not an upgrade just deactivate and uninstall the old versions before installing it.

Try67,

I marked your reply as correct. I was not able to perform the steps though. I could not get the Acrobat Pro 9 deactivated. After spending 3-4 hours trying to get help from Adobe chat and phone support I just gave up. I just installed the Acrobat DC over the old install. That removed the old one. I have no idea what Adobe's activation records show. I will have to fight that one if I have problems later installing my copy of Acrobat Pro XI on some other computer. Frustrating and wasted afternoons.

Thanks for your help,

Joe

try67, Acrobat DC is not an upgrade. I wish to preserve the option to install my Acrobat Pro XI on another computer in the future.

I tried to follow your suggestion, but I am not able to deactivate the Acrobat Pro 9 on the computer. I tried Adobe chat support on that problem with very poor results. He/she directed me to cut anti-virus (Norton) and the firewall (Norton) and then "Then edit the Host File (there should not be any entry with "#")". I was a bit concerned because I had the original host file and all lines have a "#" to show they are comments. While I was doing these things, the rep terminated the chat. The chat window was covered by the windows I was using to perform the steps and there was not audible warning. Frustrating afternoon.

I have since tried to contact the update and deactivate servers to make sure that they are still alive. I do not know how the Acrobat program contacts them. It apparently does not do an Internet query to a DNS address. I cleared my computer's DNS cache, tried a deactivate, and found no new entries in the DNS cache.

I received an email from Adobe saying they closed the case and I could go to the portal within 14 days to reopen it. I can find no button/whatever to reopen the case. I did find an Adobe web page that said closed cases could not be reopened. Apparently there is no way to contact Adobe on Labor Day. I will retry tomorrow (definition of insanity?) unless you happen to know about deactivation problems.

Thank for your help.
