I want to make my pdfs for searchable. Most of the online articles I see are years old and I am thinking there must be new technology around this.

How do I do this?

Beware that in the PDF 2.0 format (aka ISO 32000) the old "info" properties (Title, Author, etc.) are deprecated and superseeded by XMP metadata.

So do not forget to fill them to perpetuate documents.

Optimize a PDF for SEO is like HTML: metadata matters.

This is the first thing that a search engine search for.

Thank you for your response also! I never knew this feature was there! In my past job I used it to include a few settings but never realized I could add metadata there - I am going to test this out with my team mate next week. Thank you!!

A PDF file can consists of many types of objects. The most common are images and text. An image can be a picture of a car or a page of text. Images are not searchable even if it is of a page of text. Acrobat can perform an action known as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) form the original equipment used to convert printed pages into text files and placed in a file on a computer.

If you can edit the PDFs, you will have to run the Character Recognition to convert the image of text to text. After this action the PDF will be searchable.
