Please note that except for PostScript printers, Acrobat and Reader rely on the operating system and printer drivers to generate the page description language such as PCL5 or PCL/XL (PCL/6) etc. Adobe has no control over what those drivers generate and send to the printer.

You might try and see if the printer's vendor (such as HP or Xerox) or the OS provider (such as Microsoft or Apple) have an updated printer driver for your printer models.

Alternatively, if your printer supports PostScript, install the PostScript driver and use that instead.

Hi kevincagnetti,

As per the description of the issue mentioned, you are receiving PCL XL error when trying to print pdf in Acrobat/Reader, is that correct?

Try changing the following setting and see if that helps in resolving the issue:

1- Launch Reader for ex>click Print

2- Uncheck the box next to "Choose paper source by PDF page size"

3- Close the print dialogue box>relaunch Reader and try printing again.

Which application is installed on the machine- Acrobat Reader/Adobe Acrobat?

And, the Operating System- Mac/Windows?

Have you tried printing from other applications like MS Word/TextEdit?

Keep us posted with the results.
