PDF Docs won't print....Windows 10....anyone?

Community Beginner ,

I never used to have a problem but I do now

I have an HP laptop running W10.

I've had no problem at all until about a week ago. When I wanted to open a PDF it automatically launched Adobe Reader DC.

Today, i can view the document in Adobe, rotate it etc etc. When i hover over the 'print' icon it turns blue but when i click on it.....I get nothing.

It's as if the instruction has been ignored.....'Control P' has no effect either.
Essentially any command to print from the Adobe programme fails.

However....here's something I did. I saved the document to another folder. When I open the folder the pdf doc is there in the list.If I 'right click' on the document name and select 'print'......it prints.
So what's the problem?

The problem is that I dont get a Print Menu when I do it this way....so I have no control over how I print.....dpi....pages etc.

So if I have a 15 page document but i only want to print pages 1 to 4, I can't do it. It'll print all 15 pages.

Something has gone wrong somewhere but I have no idea where.

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

Thanks for trying those steps, Paul.

Try removing Reader using Cleaner tool which you can download from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot the machine.

Download Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Paul,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are unable to print in Adobe Reader except moving pdf to another folder and printing it from there using right-click>print, is that correct?

Try troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

1- Check for updates- launch Reader>Help>Check for Updates

2- If that doesn't work, try troubleshooting steps given here: Troubleshoot PDF printing in Acrobat and Reader

3- If step 2 doesn't work, try disabling protected mode- launch Reader>click Edit>Preferences>Security(Enhanced)>uncheck the box "Enable Protected Mode at startup".

Please note: Disabling protected mode is for troubleshooting purpose only, enable protected mode after troubleshooting is complete.

You may also refer to following link discussing same issue:

Can't print PDF with windows 10

What is the version of Reader installed on the machine?

Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Does this happen with all the pdfs you try to print?

Have you tried giving print command in MS Office, does that work?

Keep us posted with the results.

Hi

Yes I tried all the troubleshooting beforehand.

I even tried to download the application again but it said i already had the most recent one installed.

All other documents print ok.
One suggestion is for me to open doc in MS Edge and print from there.

This does work but is not ideal as i can't control the print quality.

The link says do i have Acrobat DC or Reader DC?

Well my version is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.....so a bit of both

2017 Release,,,,,,Version 2017.009.20058.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Hello Shivam

Thanks, this has worked.

I did as you said using the links you provided.

I opened the pdf using the newly downloaded reader.

When i hovered over the print icon it turned blue (as it did even when i had the problem).

However this time when i clicked on it, my Printer menu opened and I printed the pdf normally.

So hopefully it will remain this way. I will return if anything goes astray.

No idea why this happened but it may be a W10 issue. Having said that I'd been using the reader and printing normally for 18 months so no idea why it suddenly decided to stop.

Thanks for your help.

Paul

Microsoft Windows tries to control everything you do, and tries to make you use only Microsoft products.  I had been using an old Microsoft Word, but just got Word 13. The previous "print Adobe pdf" is no longer in the list of print options and I cannot figure out how to "add it as a new printer."  My workaround, after reading all the endless similar complaints on this forum, is to open the document in Word Perfect--remember that great program? it opens all Word documents beautifully--and then print/save to Adobe acrobat pdf. Voila!

Microsoft Word PRETENDS to print/save a pdf through its Microsoft pdf print option, but it is apparently not really a pdf and when opened in another program, identifies as a Microsoft Word document.  I could not load this so-called pdf to my website.

I am also getting very tired of MS updates. Every time they update, something on the computer wont work. Last episode was an old video file , I had to download another app to open it.

PDF files will print if you open them with Foxit Phantom PDF on win 10..
