PDF Form clear does not work with Acrobat Pro DC

Community Beginner ,

Hello good morning

I have created an PDF form which I have first exported form a old PDF form (we have lost our source...) into a new PDF Form.

Then we I have inserted all field and checkboxes again to get the new created form as it was on the old one.

The only problem I got, is the CLEAR Button (Clear Form, set back to original), to clear the entire input on the form, this CLEAR button does not work.

The PRINT Form Button next to this works fine. The PDF it self is protected, NOT to be stored and only printing is possible.

I do not know how to get this CLEAR button to work?

The field properties for the Clear Form Button is defined as Action: Form clear, see screenshot.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks a lot and best regards

Urs

Hello Try67

thanks a lot for your assistance.

According your advice, I removed the READ-ONLY selection on the clear "Clear Form" or "Reset Form".

This solved my problem.

Thanks and best regards

Urs

You'll notice it's not actually "Clear Form", but "Reset Form". There's a reason for that.

What this command does is return the form to its original state, ie it returns all the fields in it to their default value.

That value might be an empty one, but it doesn't have to be. And if it's not, that's what you'll see after you reset the form.

The default value of text fields can be found under the Options tab. For drop-downs and list-boxes it's the item selected in the list.

For radio-buttons and check-boxes it's "Off", unless the "Check box selected by default" box is ticked (again, under Properties - Options).

Hello MVP

thanks for your response.

I have seen these differences you just explained.

All required fields are empty on the form when it's been presented.

The "Clear Form" or "Reset Form" should clear out all fields I guess which are inserted by the user.

The Text fields defined as empty fields (I guess) no character in there.

But the button does not clear any thing

I hope this is correct.

Did you make sure to select all the fields in the properties of the Reset Form command?

Thanks a lot for your response.

Yes, I have had once more a look for these definitions and settings...

I have inserted a screen-shot ...

Sorry these are with German settings

From my side it's correct the settings for all these fields.

OK. And when you click the button the fields do not return to their default values? Could it be that they have a calculated value?

Can you share the file with us (via Dropbox, Google Drive, Adobe Cloud, etc.)?
