Question

PDF Size Reduction - PDF Version vs Backwards Compatibility

For years, I was able to feed files in bulk (via folders) into the batch processer in Adobe XI and previous versions to reduce the size. This always seemed to remove Adobe Acrobat backwards compatibility (version 4, 5, 6, etc..) and upgrade the PDF version (1.4, 1.5, 1.7)…

This simple change would make major size impacts (40%-80%) reduction on our file sizes (PDF Version 1.4/Acrobat 4 as I recall).

I can't figure out how to run these jobs in batch in DC Pro. You can feed it multiple files, but I used to feed it entire folder structures..

3rd party software seems to upgrade the PDF version, but I can still bring them into Adobe and manually reduce the size even more by removing that backwards Acrobat compatibility.

I have thousands of files I would love to batch process.....

Does anyone know of a Adobe (or other solution) that would upgrade the PDF version AND remove the Acrobat backwards compatibility in bulk.... Preferably in batch or even programmatically?

THANKS!!!!

P.S.

I searched forums but didn't see this specific need in a post-DC situation.. Apologies if I missed another solution posted.

You can use the Action Wizard for this.

Thanks this sounds like a big step in the right direction.

Do you if there is a way to use the action wizard with command line. So I could feed it faster and/or use task scheduler to decide when it runs?

This is not possible.
