The Acrobat DC PDF browser plug-in is missing.

Explorer ,
May 15, 2017 May 15, 2017

The following message popped up on my Win 7 PC.  I don't have Acrobat DC, I have Acrobat Standard 11.0.20.  Why am I getting this message and how do I fix it?

"The Acrobat DC PDF browser plug-in is missing.

Please reinstall Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader DC to fix this problem."

Thanks

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond.  Family emergency and then I was in the hospital.

Anyway, the message stopped appearing all on it's own.  I did nothing.  I have no idea what started it or stopped it, but all is good now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

It's IE 11 and the plugins look normal.

As I posted, I have Acrobat 11 Standard, NOT Acrobat DC.  Confusing.

Is there something you haven't mentioned? Such as, trying out the free trial of Acrobat DC? Trying Reader DC and going back? The possibility someone with access to your computer did those things?

Nope. Absolutely not. None of the above.

uninstall reader.

in general, you can expect problems when you have both reader and acrobat installed especially with non-dc versions of acrobat.

Adobe Reader doesn't show up as an installed program, only in the IE 11 addons.  Should I just disable the Reader addon?

As a test, I disabled the Reader addon in IE 11.  When I did that, I found that online PDF documents no longer open directly in a browser tab.  PDF documents now HAVE to be downloaded and they open locally on the PC with Acrobat. Not an option I prefer.

after securing your acrobat serial number,

uninstall acrobat using the control panel

clean per Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

restart your computer

reinstall acrobat and activate with your serial number.
