Question

The Acrobat PDFmaker server could not be loaded

My users are having an issue when attempting to use 'Save As Adobe PDF' through Word 2016.  The user receives the error in the title. I've reinstalled Adobe and Office without success.

Here is the pertinent info:

Windows 10 v1803 64bit

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (2015) v 2015.006.30418 32bit

Office 2016 Pro v1805 (Build 9330.2087 Microsoft Store)

I've reregistered PDFMOfficeAddin.dll

I've checked the App Paths in the registry (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroDist.exe) showing:

Default - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 2015\Acrobat\Acrodist.exe

Path - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 2015\Acrobat\

I've unchecked/rechecked the add-in through Word

As administrator, I've removed the add-in in word, then re-added it.

I can print the word document to pdf without any issues.  I cannot use the 'Save As Adobe PDF' option under 'File'.

Are there any other options that could help my dilemma?

Thanks in advance for your help.

-Will

I tried a different suggestion given to me by my coworker.  I uninstalled Microsoft Office Desktop Apps and reinstalled office through the Office portal.  Once installed, I no longer received the PDFMaker error message.  In my instance, Office 2016 is NOT listed under Control Panel -> Programs and Features.  It is only listed in Settings -> Apps in Windows 10.  Once I uninstall the software located in Settings -> Apps, I log into my account through the Office portal.  I locate the correct Office instance (I have 30 licenses in this account) and click on the 'Install Office' link.  Once installed, everything just starts to work.  Office 2016 is now listed in both 'Control Panel' -> 'Program and Features' and Settings -> Apps.  I did not need to reboot for it to work.

Shivam,

I apologize, I did not try your suggestions as I already fixed the issue just yesterday.  Those suggestions may still work for others that have my issue.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Will,

Could you confirm if you are also getting the same error as mentioned above when attempting to use 'Save As Adobe PDF' through Word 2016?

If yes, check if an update is available for Acrobat using "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu, reboot the machine after installing update and try again.

If that doesn't work, try the troubleshooting steps given in this help document: Troubleshoot Acrobat PDFMaker issues in Microsoft Office on Windows

Let us know if you need any help.

Thank you for your reply, Shivam.

Yes, I can confirm the the user gets the same error when using 'Save As Adobe PDF' through Word 2016.

I checked for Adobe Acrobat updates, but found none.  I also went through the troubleshooting guide you linked without any success.  Do you know of any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

-Will
