Question

The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.

So a few months ago we moved from using Nitro PDF which didn't really have any issues with our process, but just wasn't as efficient as Adobe Acrobat DC Pro would be. So We removed Nitro from all the computers, installed DC Pro and everything worked fine. Then a few weeks ago out of the blue, no Windows updates, no security patches to our antivirus, nothing like that, DC Pro no longer works properly. So the way we use it is a user goes out to a website we host internally and essentially checks out the editable form which opens up from the website directly into DC Pro. When they open it it would automatically create a temp copy of the profile out on a network share that the page is hosted on. The user would change the data needed, hit the disk to save, which would save no issues and then just close CD Pro and it would all be good and updated. However now when they click the disk to try and save the pdf changes they get this error, "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder." Whats weird is there is no lock file in the directory, hidden or otherwise, no one else even has the directory open, no files are even shown as locked or in use on the server checking with MMC. I am at a loss on what else to try. As a test I uninstalled DC Pro and one and installed Nitro back on it and it worked fine, but I really don't want to go back to Nitro. We currently have a work around which is they edit the PDF, save it their desktop, then close the PDF and then cut/paste the file from desktop to the share directory and that works. However that is more steps than they want to do. Any ideas?

Acrobat uses system locks, not lock files. Make sure that previews are off in Windows Explorer.

I had thought of this before and made sure that when we tested no one was in the folder at all, with or without preview
