Which hand scanner can read a compressed QR code (Barcode Field Properties)

Participant ,

Dear all,

I need to set the properties of a QR code with the option "Compress Data Before Encoding to Barcode".

BUT I would like to know which hand scanner is able to read and decode the QR Code.

Does anyone have an idea or lead to explore?

Many thanks in advance.

Peter

Hi,

I am not sure if you're referring to compressing Bar Code or QR Code?

From what I'm learning as I am reading is two different things, unless,  you are referring to QR Code as two-dimentional bar coding.

If that is what you're referring to you have to search for an omni-directional laser scanner (reads both 2D and 1D).

But in any case, I don't think that is possible to answer that simple because it depends on too many factors.

For example, not every hand held scanner is able to interpret all symbologies to begin with, and Adobe guidance doesn't recommend using hand held scanners to decode compressed QR Code (or Bar Code) that is embedded  in a PDF form field.

Seems like you need to redefine what exactly are you trying to compress and which compression method is involved so that a scanner is able to decode the algorithm of the compression ratio for text only characters versus the compression ration for alphanumeric characters, handling font scanning fails, plus correction levels between maximum and lowest capacities, AND/OR, if it is even compatible with whatever software you're using to communicate with the scanner.

It seems like scanning technology is not there yet for the type of scanning device that you are asking about and PDF editing.

You need a scanner that can read compressed code 128. Not sure if Acrobat is able to produce embedded QRcode in a PDF with support for such compression and encryption.

See the types of codes used for different applications:

Here is a list of the best reviewed hand held scanners  for 2020 with 128 code support:

You will have to evaluate  from the Adobe support links that I posted above, what is actually possible to achieve in terms of compression in your QR Code PDF form fields
