Why doesn't rich media in pdfs work on my iphone/ipad

I have attached sound files to a pdf using adobe acrobat, that trigger when clicked. This works fine on computers but in the iphone/android adobe reader app, the sound doesn't exist, even on other pdf reader apps that functionality is non-existant. Am I doing something wrong, or does rich media not translate on to handheld devices?

This has absolutely nothing to do with Flash.

As of February 2021, Flash is gone and on the desktop versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat Standard / Pro, sounds in MP3 format and videos in MP4 (or other formats using H.264 encoding) do play.

HOWEVER, sound and video in PDF was never implemented in the Adobe Mobile Acrobat (both iOS and Android) applications. Hopefully someday …

You aren't doing anything wrong.

The audio player in Adobe Reader on the desktop relies on Flash. The iOS version of Reader won't play the audio because there is no Flash.

  • Is there anyway the audio from the PDF can be played on the phone?
