Windows 10 Defender Interferes with Acrobat Distiller

I discovered today that Windows 10 Defender antivirus interferes with Acrobat Distiller. When I turned of real-time protection, Distiller ran normally. I tried excluding Distiller (acrodist.exe) from the real-time protection, but it made no difference. The only thing that worked was to disable the real-time protection altogether.

Adobe: please look into this problem. The workaround I described is no solution.

In my opinion, Windows Defender is the worst antivirus I've ever used. I think it's better to install something like Adaware Total Security (antivirus-review.com/adaware-review) and forget about any conflicts with another licensed software. I use it with some Adobe products and everything works.

Neither I nor others at Adobe have not seen any such Windows 10 Defender interference with Acrobat Distiller either now or in the past.

Is there anything “special” about the files you are processing with Distiller? Are they located on a network drive, for example?!? Do they reference external files?

Is Distiller running as part of printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance, i.e. printing to PDF from within an application?

What version of Acrobat are you currently running (i.e. exact version number, not “the latest”)?

And what version of Windows 10 are you running?
