windows 10 update KILLED PDF printer; "spooling" forever!

After a Windows update:

September 11, 2018—KB4457128 (OS Build 17134.285)  I think

After it went in my Adobe PDF printer quit working.  It just hangs when I try to print from Outlook saying "spooling".  It is hard to cancel the job, too.  And Outlook is totally hosed.

1.  Uninstalled Adobe PDF Converter

2.  Uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

From my Creative Cloud account reinstall "Acrobat DC"

HP Support looked at everything, too.  (SmartFriends case: 5020246436) on 9/14/18.

Still failing.

Reader does not come with a PDF printer. If you have such a printer it's from a third-party and is not related to Reader.
