combining Word files in Acrobat Pro

I've had problems before with combining Word files in Acrobat Pro but this is a new one - when I drag in files the first page appears and the rest are blank.

When I try on the cloud version it works, but on my desktop app, they come in as blanks.

Can anyone help at all?

I'm hoping someone will respond soon because this is beginning to affect several of my end users. Repair or reinstall of Adobe Acrobat/Office suite hasn't changed anything.
