Ignorance is not Bliss - What is Adobe Export PDF

I am so embarrased that I have no idea about this, and I know someone here can help me out.  I pay $40 (or so) for Adobe Export PDF, and I am not sure what it does and if I need it.

 

I know what Adobe is

I know what Export is

I know what a PDF is

 

Why do I want/need this?
