Multiple changes with PDF Creator

Since our business has updated our Adobe Reader software to Adobe Reader XI we have had to change the way we save our PDFs (with PDF Creator)

We use to open the PDF file click the Printer icon and select PDF Creator and save it that way.

Now we have to go to File, Save As, Find the File we want to save it in (as it is in a different file that we cant change) and then Save it.

Also if there are multiple pages on the PDFs we want to save individual pages we aren't able to now as it either prints the page (rather then saving it) and when it does save it saves as a blank PDF.

So now we have to delete the PDF and rescan them individually so they do save.

We need this fixed ASAP as we use this over 200 times a day and it is wasting time we need for other things

Nobody seems to be able to help on the phone or online. Its not a very good update the one before was a lot better we were only updating because we could not open the PDFs customers had sent us.

Thanks

Ashley

Hi FormtekProducts,

Are you referring to PDFCreator from PDFforge? Since that's not an Adobe product, I'm not sure what may have changed with that software.Have you checked with PDFforge to see if they've made any updates to their software?

However, I can say that since Reader is a PDF viewer, and has nothing to do creating PDFs, updates to Reader should not affect the way that PDFCreator works.

I am curious, though. It sounds like you already have PDF files (you say you open the PDF). If that's the case, why are you using PDFCreator to file/print them back to PDF? (If you're choosing File > Save As in Reader, you're simply saving the PDF to a new filename--or overwriting the original PDF if you don't provide a new filename.)

Best,

Sara

Hi Sara,

Ill have a look as I don't want to download something new and then something changes again.

We get faxes sent to us and they then a copy comes through our email as pdfs. We then open the pdf and then save the pdf in a new folder through PDFCreator (as we need to keep the pdf on file for mulitple years) It has always been this way since ive started here and before that too (4+ years)

Ill have a look at PDFforge and see when the latest update was but i have not had to update it before so unless someone else has then it may be an old version. Would that most likely be why?

Regards

Thanks for the explanation, Ashley.

I might suggest that you simply save the PDF attachment from the email right into your storage folders.

Unless you're doing something to the PDFs in PDFCreator, that seems an unnecessary step to me. (And while we sometimes recommend what we call "refrying" a PDF—converting a PDF to PDF—as a troubleshooting technique, it's not really a recommended workflow.) That said, there may be more to your workflow that I don't understand. But, in general, there shouldn't be a need to do anything to a PDF if your only goal is to store the PDF (unless you're saving as a PDF archive format PDF/A from PDFCreator).

I hope I haven't muddied the waters!

Best,

Sara
