When I converted a PDF in Adobe Reader to Word it destroyed my Word Doc and I no longer can open it

I was attempting to integrate a PDF into a Word doc for my professor. Once the conversion was complete, I pasted my new Word Doc into an existing document (my dissertation). Now my dissertation says it:

"HResult 0x80004005 Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line: 0, Column: 0"

What the heck? I am glad a just bought Adobe Reader and now it has destroyed my work. How can I fix this?

I don't think an autorecover is a save. But a Microsoft forum would know better. Anyway, you need to make backups (and keep them off the computer) yourself, not rely on auto saves. These would be lost if, for example, you deleted the file by accident or a virus deleted it.

The last backup seems to be hours ago despite the fact that my settings say to save every 5 minutes.

You should go immediately to the last good backup of the dissertation, in case this Word bug is irrecoverable.
