How do I go about removing password lock for a document that was fully exeucted using acrobat sign? I don't have an issue with a password locking the contents of the PDF but I do have an issue with a password required to access the contents of the PDF. These files are shared through various people in a large institution.

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Acrobat forum so that proper help can be offered.

Removing a password lock from a PDF document that was signed using Adobe Acrobat Sign can be a bit tricky, as the document's security settings are likely to be locked down to prevent unauthorized access or modifications. However, if you have permission to edit the document, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.
  2. Click on the "Tools" tab in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select "Protect" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on "Encrypt" from the options listed.
  5. In the "Encrypt with Password" dialog box, enter a password of your choice.
  6. Deselect the "Require a password to open the document" option.
  7. Click on "OK" to apply the changes.
  8. Save the document.

Once you have saved the document, the password lock to access the contents will be removed, but the PDF document will still be encrypted with a password to prevent unauthorized modifications. This should allow you to share the PDF with others without requiring them to enter a password to access the contents.

Please keep in mind that you should only remove password locks and modify security settings on PDF documents if you have the necessary permissions and authorization to do so.

Hi J - 2018 PO 025937781ejhe,

Thank you for reaching out.

If the document is signed via Acrobat Sign, removing the password from the document is impossible.

After the document is signed, it gets encrypted for security reasons.

Hope that answers your question.

Let us know if you are referring to something else.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi,

I am having a similar problem, where signed documents are password protected and therefore cannot be forwarded on to other recipients. Since I am the one who created the document, and I didn't create the password, is there a way for me to access the password so I could then share it with the recipients to whom I need to send the signed document?

Thank you for your help.
