Issue with Video Resolution in Adobe Express - Video Merge

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I am reaching out today to address a concern regarding the limitations of video resolutions in Adobe Express. For an extensive period, I have been a regular user of the Merge Video service (https://new.express.adobe.com/tools/merge-videos) to merge videos with resolutions of 5120x1440.

I utilize a 49-inch monitor, and the support for this resolution is crucial for my workflow. However, recently, I discovered that the Merge Video service no longer allows the uploading of videos with a resolution of 5120x1440. When attempting to upload, an error message is displayed stating, "Your video dimensions are unsupported. Largest supported size is 3840 x 3840px."

This restriction to a maximum resolution of 3840x3840 pixels severely impedes my workflow, as it leaves me with no viable options within Adobe’s range of services for editing and merging my videos. I am unable to utilize Adobe Rush for this resolution, and now Adobe Express’s Merge Video service seems to have imposed the same limitation.

I would like to inquire about the reasoning behind this sudden change and restriction in resolution support and whether there are plans to reinstate support for resolutions up to 5120x1440 pixels. Could you please provide some insight or any potential solutions for users who need to work with videos in higher resolutions?

I understand that software evolves to meet the general needs of its user base, but this change has left me, and potentially others, without an Adobe solution that meets our specific requirements.

I would appreciate your assistance and any clarification you can provide on this matter.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Hi @bestranger

Sorry no one responded to your post. I wasn't familar with this change prior to reading about it here. I suspect the change is in relation to the challenges of working with ultra-wide content that may not be compatible with the Adobe Express video editing user interface, but that is speculation on my part. Have you tested with our more advanced video editing software, like Premiere Pro, or After Effects, to see if they support this resolution? I'll see if I can find out for you and follow up.

Best,
Dave

Hello @David__B ,

I am currently editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, which is the last software that supports ultra-wide resolution. However, I prefer using Adobe Express or Adobe Rush over Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro can be a bit complex for my needs when editing simple videos, where I only need to merge or cut without requiring the extra features it offers.

Hi @bestranger

I inquired with our developers and was told the actual reason is related to some backend changes for the service. Our Export Service does not support exports larger than 3840 x 3840. Thus, allowing import of anything larger than 3840 would lead to disappointment when exported files didn't match the imported dimensions. A short term workaround might be to use the mobile version of Video Merge from a phone or tablet. I'm not sure if this would be easier than PPro or AE and it would only be a temporarily solution - as the same issue will occur when the future mobile version of Adobe Express is released.

Hi @David__B ,

So, basically, I can no longer edit videos quickly and easily through Adobe Express or Adobe Rush, right? So out of the 3 Adobe video editing tools, I can only use 1? Just recently, I could use at least 2. Are you telling me that I will never be able to use the features I used to use, and even Adobe Rush doesn't support my resolution and never will? Honestly, I'm disappointed. But thank you for at least providing some response.
