How to fade the design edges into transparency

I want to fade out the indicated edges of this design gradually to transparency so that it's an irregular, cloud like effect rather than the sharp edges. I want the edges to seem to blend into the shirt. Please give directions on how to do this. Thanks in advance!

I was using the posted photo as an example to try and indicate the edges I'm talking about. I want to have the outside edges of a design irregularly fade into transparency on the shirt.
