Video stretches when imported to Adobe Express

New Here ,
May 19, 2025 May 19, 2025

When I import a video file it my Adobe Express file it is stretching it out of its original aspect ratio. It seems that Adobe Express is adjusting the aspect ratio to match the document aspect ratio (square). I can't find a way to alter the aspect ratio of the imported video once it is within Adobe Express ... I can only resize it.

Hi @Matthew-James,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and sorry for the frustration!

You're right — Adobe Express adjusts videos to fit the current canvas size, which can result in the video being stretched or cropped if the aspect ratios don't match (e.g., square canvas vs. widescreen video). While you can resize the video within the frame, maintaining the original aspect ratio directly isn’t currently available in all layout modes.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

  1. Change the Canvas Aspect Ratio before importing your video:

    • In the top toolbar, select Resize > choose a preset that matches your video’s original aspect ratio (e.g., 16:9).

    • Then import the video again.

  2. Use the “Fit” or “Fill” option (if available on your device):

    • Tap the video and check for “Fit” vs. “Fill” options — this can help maintain the original proportions.

We're continuously working on improving video editing features, and I’ll share your feedback with our product team.

Let me know which platform you're using (Web, iOS, Android), and I’d be happy to provide more tailored help.
