My prompts include a variety of wordings to ask the ai to compose a grassy plain. It always includes mountains in th distance and trees, even when I use prompts such as:

A flat grassy plain with no trees or mountains

A sweeping treeless plain

A priairie with no trees or mountains

And so forth.

Hello @mathew_3043,

Thank you for your message. I am sorry you are having this problem.

The model does not understand the concept of a word being negated by the word in front of it. So using "not [X]", "no [X]", "exclude [X]", "with no [X]", and "without [X]" does not work. Hello @mathew_3043,

The model does not understand the concept of a word being negated by the word in front of it. So using "not [X]", "no [X]", "exclude [X]", "with no [X]", and "without [X]" does not work. As you observed, it ignores the negation word and adds to the image the thing you are trying to avoid.  You basically need to find "positive" words and phrases telling the model what you want to see rather than telling it what you do not want to see.  Such as "flat land" rather than "no mountains" or "desolate" rather than "no people".  If I am not sure how to describe something I want to exclude in a positive way, I will ask Google Gemini or ChatGPT for ideas.  Just be aware that when they give prompts, they are usually too wordy and conversational, so you have to edit them, but they are good for ideas.

Mountains have seemed to be a special worst case problem. We used to get several messages a week about mountains inserted into images. They have seemed to be particularly pesky to remove. Your "sweeping treeless plain" is on the right track.  If all else fails, sometimes just taking the image to generative fill to remove the offending objects works.

On the good news, it looks like in Model 4, negative prompting will return based on the keynote at Adobe MAX. There is no definitive timeline for its release, but something to look forward to. If you missed the keynote on October 14, you can view it here: Adobe MAX Opening Keynote.

Thanks,
