I added this font named Playwrite CC Portugal to Adobe Suite, and it keeps displaying like this in every programs including Illustrator and InDesign:

This is how the text app eared when I added it from the Adobe Fonts website:
It seems like all the other cursive fonts on my laptop is having a same problem. How do I solve this?
Hi, I had the exact same problem with Playwrite Việt Nam. After some infor digging and research, this one seems to work for me:
Changing the kerning from "Optical" to "Metrics". After that, delete the old text box, then create a new one and start typing into it.
Hope this helps!

I am having the same issue. It works in Libbre Office, but not in Illustrator. How do I fix this?

I looked into this typeface further. I'm seeing the same issues with the fonts as the original poster in Adobe Illustrator. The fonts don't render perfectly in a couple other rival applications. The default characters are different in CorelDRAW. The fonts seem to work most predictably in Affinity Designer, but still not glitch-free. Playwright CC Portugal has a pretty complex character set with a lot of alternative glyphs. It looks like the various character sets are getting jumbled in different ways in these different applications.
I did some searching and found a bit of a solution for Adobe Illustrator at the Github TypeTogether page for Playwrite. First you have to open Preferences, go to the Type section and then check the "Show Indic Options" box and then close Preferences. Then open the Paragraph panel and select "Middle Eastern Composer" from the flyout menu. Doing that will change the letters to a properly connected script.
I haven't tried to download the version of Playwrite Portugal that's hosted at Google Fonts yet. It's a variable font file. There is a LOT of different versions of Playwrite at the Google Fonts site. Later edit: I downloaded the variable font from the Google Fonts web site; it behaves the same way as the version of Playwrite Portugal at Adobe Fonts.

I tried using the Playwrite fonts, but none of them work—it’s incredibly frustrating. I don’t see the point of including them in the font library if they behave this way. Even after switching to Metrics and adjusting the kerning, the spacing is still completely off. On the second line, the letter spacing is reduced by 66, and is still looking off.

Adobe Illustrator: Navigate to Preferences > Type, check the "Show Indic Options" box, and close preferences. Then open the Paragraph Panel and select "Middle Eastern Composer" from the contextual menu.
