Unwanted foreign language fonts

Community Beginner ,
Aug 29, 2024 Aug 29, 2024

There have been no answers in the community forums for removing hundreds of unwanted foreign fonts that all of a sudden appear in the fonts menu. Adobe offers no help whatsoever with this except to remove ALL your fonts and start over. That does not address the problem of how they SNEAK in, in the first place. Adobe says they have no control over this. Excuse me??? I did not ask to be invaded after I download an Adobe font from CC. That's when it happened. Adobe takes monthly charges but will never help with answers.

What fonts are you referring to? And what operating system are you using? Both Apple and Microsoft have built-in fonts.

These are not built-in fonts. I was in Adobe CC downloading some new
decorative fonts. I went
back into Illustrator and over 100 foreign language fonts invaded my font
menu.
I am on a MacBookPro OS 12.2.1.

These are not built in fonts. They just appeared in my font menu in Illustrator. I was on with Adobe for over 8 hours over two days, constantly getting disconnected from India where everyone is. No one knows anything. I then went into Font Book which Adobe didn't even suggest and disabled as many as I could but there are still close to 100 that could not be disabled. These are NOT system fonts nor fonts I downloaded. Arabic, Japanese, Chinese and Hindi are not system fonts for me. Adobe support is so inept but will take your monthly fees for faulty software and incompetent workers who you also cannot understand.

Both Mac and Windows install a lot of fonts for various languages, even if your operating system isn't set to use these languages. It's not advised to remove these as it can break compatibility with some websites or system dialogs.

As for Adobe, they do bundle a fair amount of fonts with their software (see the list here). These font files can usually be found either in the Adobe directory and/or in your Illustrator install directory. I can't say what would happen if you delete them, so you may want to keep a backup of any folders you modify so you can restore them if it breaks the software.

It is a pain though, whether they're Adobe or OS default fonts. I wish there was a "hide" button next to fonts in the font picker, similar to the option to favourite them.

Please check this page from Apple's web site. It lists the system fonts that come pre-installed in Mac OSX and iOS.
https://developer.apple.com/fonts/system-fonts/

Adobe's CC applications do not install a bunch of fonts directly into a computer's operating system. Adobe Illustrator includes 21 fonts that are stored in an Illustrator sub-folder and not available to other applications. InDesign has 42 fonts to itself in a similar folder. Some of those fonts are foreign language fonts, but there aren't very many of them -unlike the staggering amount bundled into Mac OSX.

The only typefaces from Adobe are from Adobe Fonts and those have to be activated. Both macOS and Windows install typefaces, but Adobe does not. When typefaces are installed by your OS (or on-purpose by you), then you will see them in your applications.

What is your OS?

You've been asked multiple times for a screenshot of the problem typefaces so we can see what you are seeing and better assist. If you haven't done that because you don't know how, then go to https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ and select your OS from the Nav bar.

Sorry, I did not download fonts on purpose and I know how to take a
screenshot. My point is I downloaded specific fonts from CC and all the
other foreign fonts showed up. Simple as that. My OS had nothing to do with
it. It happened while I was in Adobe CC. Plain and simple. I've had enough.
Thank you everyone. I'm over this.

If you know how to take a screen shot why don't you show us a screen shot of those foreign language fonts in a fonts menu? You won't name any specific type families either. None of us can help you if you refuse to answer any of those questions.
